At this exact time next month, we'll be lining up for pancakes in Jewell. We'll have made it through the pit. We'll still have about 30 hours of running ahead of us. I can't wait!
I can't say thank you enough to everyone in this community for supporting High Fructose Corn Sweat, but y'all make it that much more fun for us to do this. We will be sharing photos, videos, and updates on our team Instagram page (https://www.instagram.com/highfructosecornsweat/) so be sure to give us a follow. It is where we will post the tracking link when it goes live so you can get a birds-eye view of Corn Sweat and all the teams running Relay Iowa this year.
Lastly if you donate to IAAF through this link they will know that your favorite fellow MYAM reader sent you (and it counts toward the Corn Sweat team fundraising effort): https://fund.nnaf.org/fundraiser/6127778
I love this whole operation for you, I love this whole operation for us, I love this whole operation for the individuals who benefit as a result, and I am grateful that you shared that very first link, Beau. Thank you and your fellow teammates so very much.
We have a farm two miles south of Jewell, hit me up if you need a place to shower June 7. That day is also Scandinavian Days in Story City, with the parade at 10 am. It's the 60th anniversary of Scandinavian Days, so kumla and lefse and kringla for days!
That is such a kind offer, thank you! Relay Iowa has multiple shower spots for us along the route so I don't think we would risk stinking up your place. However if you wanted to cheer for corn sweat or any other runners IRL, the teams will all be passing through Jewell early Saturday morning. They host a pancake breakfast at Victory Christian Fellowship in Jewell for us that starts at 7. Bring a cowbell! :)
This newsletter community is one of the things that keeps me going! Itβs easy to forget how good and kind people can be, but this community has shown up time and time again for Iowa (and members all across the globe!). You all helped us through the derecho, and youβve been huge supporters for trans people and abortion access in Iowa. Itβs made such a difference!
Beau is going to win this for sure, but if you want to join MY high fructose corn sweat pyramid scheme, donate to here! https://fund.nnaf.org/fundraiser/6127298
I love everything about this. I am a long way from running anywhere, but I'm so grateful you posted the article by Molly about POTS. I am getting checked for this in June. My best friend walked across the US in 1995-96, because someone told her she could. She was an amazing person, and I did the support van driving. We raised funds and awareness for salmon habitat restoration groups in the Seattle area, and it was awesome. I learned so much about myself on that trip - even though I went home when we got to Jackson, WY. Cheering you on from Oregon!
Ok, Lyn, et al - you have me JEALOUS. But, I have finally been able to run a MILE again after not being able to run for 2 years due to surgeries on my over-run left foot (Daniel Day Lewis will not be playing me in this movie!) So - HERE, in front of all these wonderful people, I will commit to join you NEXT YEAR if everything goes well and I am back to my old running self again. My husband is from Iowa, and my best friend from childhood in NY moved to Ames when we were in 3rd grade, so I can be an "honorary Iowan by proxy" if you'd like. Count me in for 2026. :)
OK! I made a small purchase of important items from your list. I did it because I love reading Lyz's writing and by extension the community that sustains her. It will be the last Amazon purchase I make because as I am canceling my Amazon Prime account after 15 years. It's long overdue: we rarely order from Amazon anyway, we NEVER shop at Whole Foods (we love our local co-op), and can live without the streaming. Mostly, because we can no longer tolerate giving any explicit financial support to Bezos. I will wait to cancel until after your package arrives. Thanks for pushing us over the (Amazon) finish line.
Absolutely amazing! Good luck with the run and I can't wait to read about how it went. And I am going to steal the phrase: "a refusal to cede territory". That is so good!

The real winner will be IAAF!

Thank you Bob, we greatly appreciate your support!
I will contribute what I can, but first, what is the significance of the rock you have your hand on in the second photo?
That's a little buffalo statue/sculpture that the team posed with at Buffalo Alice in Sioux City the night before the 2024 relay.
And thank you for your contribution!
The pretzels are on the way!
It's so fun to cheer on the Corn Sweaters every year!
