As I have zero money for the time being, I decided to use the 'suggest a title' feature as I often do on my local library's website and preorder "This American Ex-Wife". It was already on order! 2 copies! I was able to get the second hold position because another of your fans here in the Twincities had the first...probably the lovely person who preordered it.

the cedar rapids public library has only ordered ONE copy. really? if you live in the cedar rapids metro area, put your name on the 'hold' list so they know how many people are interested. i'm #5 but am pre-ordering a book to give as a gift.

I can't WAIT for my copy to get here (thank you SO MUCH for the signed bookplate and stickers!!!)!!!!!!! I'm planning my reading schedule around your book, seriously! Don't know if it helps, but I put it on my "Want to read" list at Goodreads.

It's gonna be phenomenal! Thank you for writing it, Lyz. Xoxox

Excited to receive mine! The podcast has been great. I listen every week and am surprised and sometimes appalled that so little has changed since I married in 75 and divorced in 93. I was criticized by my own mother for keeping my name. Married a so called feminist who proceeded to contribute less and less the more there was to be done. Started out 50/50, ended 90/10 and that’s me being generous. Thanks so much for your good work. It is very helpful to hear other women’s voices.

Considering buying enough copies to leave them in public places like tracts.

As a way of saying “Thank you” I pre-ordered your book. I want to thank you for being one of the mentors on my journey out of evangelicalism and into a wider, better world. You are the acerbic version of Rachel Held Evans that I needed. In my late coming to feminism (I’m 62) I have been saddened and enriched by my growing understanding of the righteous rage of women. Saddened not because I think the rage misplaced or too much or whatever but saddened by the part I played for most of my life in contributing to the pain and marginalization of those I love the most, mainly my wife and my daughters. I regularly find fresh reasons to ask forgiveness from them.

I suppose the main reason I’m writing (apart from the “thank you”) is I want to affirm what you and others have stated or alluded to: the version of Christianity that is American evangelicalism not only has visited destruction on this culture, marginalized women in the most gaslighting “we are not misogynists” way, and doubled down on the toxic theology of hell, but has robbed men of joy while burdening them with the impossible standards of purity and righteousness that come with being “the head of the home.”

It has taken me the better part of a decade to detoxify myself, to begin to not hate myself, and to bring a loving understanding to the amazing women who continue to forgive me and to be a part of my life.

I have been enriched by your rage and I wish you continued happiness and success!

If you are interested, I’ve written a few essays on a friend’s Substack about my journey of faith. You can find one of them here:
