Praising The Failiest Failson’s lazy brainworm with a parody of BOTH Tennyson and Shakespeare is why I pay to subscribe here. Ordinary Substacks would have simply done one or the other, but, unlike that damned worm, you finished the job!!! Onward!

“We were both watching our parents spend their entire savings and pensions on medical care,” says Wilson..."

This might be the most relatable sentence I read all day. I have a feeling a lot of GenXer's will be following in this couple's footsteps over the next 5-7 years.

LOL same here. Every time I read about the projected transfer of wealth from Boomers to their Millennial kids I wonder if they are planning to do it before they need it or will follow in the footsteps of the Silent Generation and use it all up on end of life care

This GenXer already went! Catching up on deferred healthcare without going into debt is such a relief.

I keep running into young women here in the EU who don't understand why I can't enthusiastically support their goal of moving to the US to "make it." A surprising number want to move to Texas. And they think I must be mistaken about conditions in the place I just left, because the myth is so strong.

Right on! Where'd you end up (if you're ok w/sharing)?

Central Portugal, near a major university with a medical school

The worm reminded me of the joke from my childhood, which involved putting your hand (palm down, fingers pinched in) on top of someone’s head and asking, “What is it?? A brain-eating spider!” And then it keels over and you add, “What’s it doing?? Dying!!”

Oh my dad used to do a version of this! I was today years old when I learned he did not make it up

Come on, everybody knows it's Ted Cruz who is the Zodiac Killer, not lovely Sherrod Brown!

I'm so excited: I know the woman who says she's never coming back to the US. I am friends with her son and have gotten to know her over the last several years. She wanted to make clear (she says she was misquoted) that she will visit her family here, but she was just emphatic that she would never live here again.

I've been watching her prepare for this for the last six years, and it's relatively daunting to comply with the conditions of the retirement visa. She's one of those indomitable people who perseveres until she gets what she needs. But as someone with a retirement-age partner (and as a GenXer, closer to that age than I would like to admit), Cynthia has inspired me to think about retiring outside the US. I've already considered, if my partner goes before me, living on a cruise ship until I'm ready for assisted living.

That’s why the zodiac reveal is a surprise. Because it’s not Ted Cruz.

But also tell Cynthia we love her and she’s a hero

I haven’t had much time for news this week. This is the first I’ve heard of the RFK, Jr. brain worm and it was a glorious retelling!

I wonder if there's an epidemic of brain-eating worms. It would certainly explain the idiocy we've been witnessing in the country. All politicians should be tested at the very least.

Loved the new version of Very Hungry Caterpillar! Still giggling about.

I hope everyone clicked on the petty man who is an American hero link. Are hyperrealist spite murals a thing? If not, they should definitely become a thing.

It is truly a work of genius! Leonardo himself, were he so petty!

Wow, you have covered it all-classics, parody, humor, politics and music. Taylor Swift’s song is great. So much better than the stuff we had when I was young- “Its My Party and I’ll Cry If I Want To”. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

Ahh, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." I mean worm. Wormathy did not complete the very important task at hand. A valiant effort though. RIP Wormathy.

I read someone's tweet that the brain worm died of starvation, but I say it was poisoned!

All hail the petty man and his painted fence! That is a glorious way to handle complaints. Expensive, too, but glorious.

Lyz you made me spill my morning coffee! I can only fervently hope this election season will be the last I see of the squiggly symbol formerly known as RFK, Jr.

I feel like the worm died because it was RFK Jr's brain. As Britney sang, Toxic.

Wormothy fought valiantly in the name of Shai Hulud and I salute them for it. RFK's toxic brain was always going to be a multi-worm job.
