Before I read this newsletter this evening, I recreated the Michelle Bachmann corn dog picture at the Minnesota State Fair. But where's her husband Marcus's, that one is even better!

Good article. Thanks.

Fwiw regarding school buses, several years ago at the Senior Center I spoke with a lady who remembered riding to school in a horse-drawn school bus in Selma, Iowa (southcentral Iowa). She said the bus was heated in the winter by a kerosene stove.

Great piece. No doubt politicians can be undone by corndogs and helmets in tanks alike.

Happy Sunday, and Happy Labor Day! I heard a wonderful sermon today about Labor Day at my Unitarian Church. (We are a liberal, social justice oriented lot.). It's my first labor day as an engineering manager. I am trying to do right by my employees in every way. I realized I have a lot of influence so I am trying to make sure I do the right thing with that. My integrity is not for sale. The most important skill? Listening! The least important skill as a manager? You guessed it - talking, and I tend to talk too much!

Now as for fair food - I remember things like corn dogs, and sugar waffles and cotton candy. I think my favorite is the corn dogs. Not good for every day food, but certainly a delicious treat! (I can't stand the word "yummy".). Sugar waffles are too greasy for my stomach, but as a kid I enjoyed them.

It got up to 115 Fahrenheit even here on the west coast (southern California). We could use air conditioning today but we don't have it as we usually don't need it. We have been asked to conserve power between 4 and 9 pm tonight. It will cool down to 65F tonight. I'll be glad when this heat dome goes away.

As I wrote on your "Discord" site, I immensely enjoyed your Politico piece.

I especially like how you brought out the history of food and politics.

I also appreciated the photo of Rick Perry and his corndog.
