My friend Anna came up with it. I was going to give men free podcasting equipment when they registered for selective service but hers was better

The DNC is poised to be even more irrelevant. If men feel alienated and unnecessary, it is a result of many of their choices. Why did porn get so misogynistic - because it sells. Like white supremacy, male privilege exudes oppression. Why is anyone considering pandering to this?

I read somewhere recently that Sydney Sweeny is selling soap made from her bath water. It's a limited-edition collab. Put that on the list!

Unfortunately I’m on her side here. Like people are so weird about her, she might as well make money off of it

I totally think it's a great idea for her! Like the streamer who was selling vials of bath water to fans. Though soap seems more hygienic

You always pick the perfect dingus, and none have been so perfect as this one. (Okay, Secretary Roadkill McBrainworm’s brain worm was pretty much genius, too.)

On motherhood: I figured out before I had kids, but never said anything about it because I was fearful, that losing myself in my kids would be dreadfully unfair to them. After elementary school I had no part in any of their accomplishments and it would be extremely unfair of me to try. I could set an example, maybe enforce a schedule, and provide, say, the means to get science fair projects completed. I couldn’t and shouldn’t live through them because living through your children is as unfair to THEM as it is to you.

My parents, God love ‘em, made it clear to me that any mistake I made or problem I had devastated them. My father was so afraid of Something Bad Happening that he foreclosed a lot of chances for me to learn resilience and just how to be a normal person. It was a version of the Evangelical Bubble long before that subculture was invented. Knowing that making a bad grade in Algebra will send your father into a depressive spiral is one hell of a burden to place on a 14 year old, and just imagine how much worse that was when I was in single digits.

As bad is this is for your kids, it’s REALLY unfair to you, and what kind of an example does being unfair to yourself set for your children? Lyz, everything you do in your career IS a way of serving and helping your kids and I don’t mean just the money. Seeing their Mom achieve remarkable things teaches kids that women in general and mothers in particular are human and that being a mom is nothing to be afraid of if they want to have kids. It’s teaching your son that women are human and not merely sandwich vending machines. Those lessons will live forever for them.

Ya done good, kid!

Americans to Dems: We want reasonable housing costs, healthcare that won't destroy us, and a path to a good life. Also: decent roads.

Dems: We should do a podcast.

P.S. I can't speak for anyone else, but man, when my kids left junior high, it was a red-letter day!

To be fair, Dems run on all that stuff, get beat because our candidate is a woman, and the people who didn't vote for our candidate say 'you didn't do a podcast catering to me -- which must be because you hate me.'

The foolishness that's the subject of the post isn't something Dems are dreaming up because they want to do podcasts. They're desperate to find a way to reach people who apparently don't care enough about healthcare to vote for the candidates trying to work on it.

I guess we have to hope that either a) young men gain some sense as they get older (limited precedent for *that* particular hope) or b) there are enough women who still aren't voting that we can offset the "oppressed young white man" vote. Doesn't fill me with unbridled optimism.

When I wanted to share this, I thought the URL slug was a mistake, until I read this: "Launching a new cryptocurrency called BEWBCOIN" then it clicked, and I guffawed and surprised my dog at 5:42 AM.

Well done Lyz!

Yes, the announcement by the Democrats about their outreach to men was really stupid. It gave great talking points to MAGA.

Is this the same DNC that shoved Sanders out for Clinton? Then allowed a 78 yo to pick a woman running mate? Then spent 1B on Harris and is still fundraising? I love Kamala and voted for her. But perhaps they need to go after white women who won’t vote for women. Or give people what they need. Or just turn out the lights.

Congrats on big kid mom life! This stage goes even faster. You will cry when you leave them at college. I was warned and still bawled about 200 miles.

Also congrats on the book deal!!

Amen to going after white woken who won’t vote for a woman! I dream of a day when everyone votes, aka compulsory voting! It works for other countries!

Compulsory voting sounds a touch fascist, but yeah I get it. I have a lifelong friend, now more acquaintance, tell me the week after the inauguration that she didn't vote because, "Kamala was a weak candidate." Her husband voted felon. I said, "Well, he's just outlawed my son." So yeah, all those non-voters can stick it.

Hey guys!

It’s not women who are the cause of your lousy job prospects and general immiseration. (Especially you guys who aren’t white.)

Oh, wait. It’s capitalism. And we like capitalism better than justice.

Never mind. Here’s a podcast,

The DNC

I'll probably always vote for Democrats because I am committed to harm reduction, but I will never hesitate to say "FUCK YOU" to the party when it deserves to hear it, which is often.

When I moved to NY, which is a closed primary state, from WA, which is an open primary state, I was deeply alarmed to realize I had to register Democrat to participate fully in the voting process. But I did it, and it's only the FUCK YOU! screaming as necessary that allows me to survive.

Reading about your run across Iowa (a few weeks ago?) made it sound fun, like "only a mile at a time? This out of shape 58yo could handle that!" Seriously, enjoy the stars and the camaraderie if not the endless Casey's pizza!

One of the best things about Relay Iowa is that each team gets to pick their own running plan. Some teams do a set rotation where each member runs X miles and they just rotate through. Our team runs shifts. So for the duration of a shift (~4 hours) the on-duty runners take turns going as far as they want, usually a mile or two at a time. In my opinion this makes it accessible to runners of all abilities, plus it helps with planning because you know that if you are on a rest break you have a guaranteed 4 hours where you don't have to be running.

I am determined to wring every bit of joy out of this year's experience.

OMG! I nearly spit out my coffee when I saw the newest bitcoin iteration you suggested - BEWBCOIN! My boobs have been much on my mind, as I made a visit to the Sanford Breast Center in Sioux Falls yesterday for extensive testing including putting a “marker” in my left breast for future reference. Biopsy + Bewbcoin = Beyond Belief!!!! I won’t be able to attend the Freya Project, so I made a donation to the HFCS fund. Keep up the good work!!!
