Faux News ran a chyron yesterday stating ‘Zohran the Destroyer’ and I really want his campaign to sell t-shirts with that slogan on them.

Y’all might enjoy this: https://www.thedriftmag.com/a-bureaucratic-and-feminine-mind/

My son was rejected by the sheriff’s office in Travis County for what I think is a bullshit reason — and one I can’t discuss — so anyone who does such things, I would appreciate some good thoughts directed toward him.

Oh please. I don't live in NYC anymore but I know my former neighbors and they are smart. Look at them not falling for the Cuomo retread! I just hope ZM can pull it off, governing the biggest city in the country is no easy feat.

The funny thing about Mandami's ideas is that they have been talked about for decades. Free buses for example is not a giveaway, it is a rational idea in a city where it may be more efficient to have free buses, and so save the costs and time it takes to collect fares.

And a $30 minimum wage may be a bit much but it is not ridiculous.

Even day care... well for shift workers, it might make it easier to work is one have reliable and affordable child care.

I say this as a now retired business man who worked for decades in NYC. Lived in NJ, but my forebears are buried in Queens.

I don't $30/hour for minimum wage is much at all, esp in one of the most expensive cities in the world – that's only $62,500 annually.

Well I did not characterize $30 as ridiculous. I just don’t know. I was a hiring manager in NYC till I retired but I did not hire at that level. Only at higher wages

I also did not characterize it as "ridiculous". I used your own wording of "much".

The MIT living wage calculate for the NYC metro puts the number at $28.87 for a single adult. It jumps to $51.29 for 1 adult and 1 child.

I'm just glad I drank my morning coffee before I read this - otherwise, I'd have spontaneously sprayed coffee all over my computer several times. I love Monday mornings for the Strictly Speaking podcast (*highly* recommended), and Friday mornings for Dingus of the Week. Both mercilessly mock those most deserving, with just the right amount of snark (which, honestly, is the maximum amount that can be fit into the format).

“ I mean, a 33-year-old man talking about kindness, loving your neighbor, helping the poor!? We must get him out of here. Call Pontius Pilate! He’ll know what to do.”

Speaking here as someone very much a part of the establishment NY Jewish community, I fully understand and appreciate why a lot of people are deeply uncomfortable about Mamdani's ascendency. That said, I am also deeply uncomfortable with a lot of my community's reaction to Mamdani's ascendency.

Heh, I’m fascinated how critics think this man is simultaneously going to implement Sharia law and sex changes for all. Somehow Sadiq Khan has been mayor of London for nearly a decade without everyone being forced into burqas.

Zohran's win is the shot in the arm we all needed! Now to get him through the general, and then (hopefully) on to effective governance!

Also, Yglesias definitely needs more people to be mean to him. ✊

NYC can Hot Socialism and you can, too. Today especially, with the gassy belch that is the outcome of this year's Sclerotic Court proclamations, the redirected focus on what is good (and can be good-er) is most welcome.
