In the words of Homer Simpson, "weaseling out of things is what separates man from the animals. Well, except the weasel."

I would like to share my good news for the day. I went to the Wendy's drive thru next to my office for a Coke* this morning. (Wendy's has $1 fountain drinks, any size. So it was cheaper than using the pop machine at work.) The Wendy's employee whose shirt identified him as "CALEB" gave it to me for free! Happy Friday friends! *Yes I know, Coca Cola is bad for me but it is literally my only vice.

I got a free coke at our local bar where we always had $1 tacos while studying for the bar exam and I am still talking about it here 11 years later!

I 100% agree with Kelsey McKinney, and I've felt that way for a very long time. Nikole Hannah-Jones writes in the 1619 Project that this has motivated her - and that Black people who feel this way have been responsible for so much of the good progress that makes this country better. It is a struggle between keeping the light on, or being cynical. Lyz- your humor combined with a clear eye about what is happening really help me stay on the side of the light. Jon Lovett (Lovett or Leave It) is another. And no surprise that Mace is the dingus. I think you are going to have to create levels of dingus, because she is leveling up.

In the Flyover Politics discord we have a handful of custom dingus-related emoji created by the incredible Caitlin. Besides the standard Dingus emoji there's the Dingot, the Dinguspalooza, the Dingularity, the Dingalingdong, and the Schroedingus. I would give Nancy Mace a triple Dingot I think.

They also made us emojis for Smigus Dyngus and Springus Dingus which I think are both related to a Polish celebration (the first one definitely is). https://theculturetrip.com/europe/poland/articles/what-is-polands-wet-monday-everything-you-need-to-know-about-smigus-dyngus

I see a political action forming... seriously - can an Oregonian get in on Flyover Discord? I only do the discord with Crooked media shows. Not sure how to navigate because I'm an old.

It's open to all paying MYAM subscribers and includes people from all over the U.S. and the world. There are some Oregonians in there already but there's always room for more, especially if you bring some Tillamook Ice Cream.

Hi, Boomer here and I can't figure out how to get to Flyover Discord. Searched for an explanation and still can find it. Can you point me in the right direction?

Hi Gayle, I hope this will help! First this is the link to a Substack post Lyz made when it launched. It includes a tutorial video for Discord, which can be used via an app on your phone or you can just visit the website link on your computer.

INTRO POST LINK: https://lyz.substack.com/p/introducing-the-flyover-politics

The second thing is your invitation link to the Discord. It should be in an e-mail that you received from MYAM/Lyz/Substack. The one I got is dated 5/18/2022 with a subject line of "Welcome to Flyover Politics". That message has an invitation link you can click that will take you to the Flyover Politics Discord server.

If you started your paid subscription sometime after 5/18/2022 the e-mail you received might be different, but I think if you search your inbox for "Flyover Politics" the message with your invitation link should turn up. If you can't find it, don't worry! The intro post also includes Lyz's e-mail address so you can contact her directly for an invitation link to the discord.

It would be great to have you in the discord server! It's just as wonderful as the community of commenters here, but a slightly different vibe because the discussions are about whatever happens to be going on at the time or what folks feel up to sharing about, not necessarily related to a specific newsletter or topic.

Pawing Patrol! Bravo! I bow in respect!

Seriously, has anyone actually heard of a woman being attacked in a restroom? There are little to no stats to find on the 'net. And guess what? If a person of any gender wants to attack a person in a restroom, I doubt they will go to all the trouble to dress as the respective gender! It's so much ... GAH! Reminds me of the "satanic panic!" And Big Props to Sarah McBride, who now gets a chance to walk in on Mike Johnson at the urinal. You go, girl!

I'm guessing trans women have been attacked, or at least harassed, in men's restrooms. There's this, but it only establishes a correlation. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/hsph-in-the-news/transgender-teens-restricted-bathroom-access-sexual-assault/

Melissa's avatar

Yes, there's that, and that's important (and speaks to why trans-people should use the bathroom they are most comfortable using). But I was speaking more about cis-women being attacked by men in women's restrooms.

(Oncology nurse here, hi!) So…I’d take the IV Vitamin c results with a huge grain of salt. The alternative medicine world has been plugging iv vitamin c for cancer for years and years and to date, it’s never been shown to do anything. I would be thrilled if this turns out to be truly legit, but…be careful.

Expand full comment
Molly Monk's avatar

Diane, you’re so right about the need to be careful! The alternative medicine world’s embrace of vitamin C as a cure-all and the resulting misinformation has caused so many problem for research and health outcomes overall, and I can only imagine how much you’ve seen of that as an oncology nurse!!! This research is from a peer-reviewed, randomized phase II clinical trial of a 3x a week extremely high-dose infusion *in combination with* standard treatment for late-stage, metastatic pancreatic cancer patients - definitely not the “vitamins will cure your cancer” sort of thing that’s been omnipresent for the last 50 years.

"Every accusation is a confession." Is it any wonder that they so frequently call Democrats pedophiles (and worry constantly about homosexuality)?

Maybe some day after Evil has Passed, we'll be like Europe and have bathroom stall doors that go all the way up and all the way down. And then, unisex bathrooms? Oh, the terror!

By the way, we just looked at a house with three bathrooms - and three urinals! I guess the builder didn't want to worry about putting the seat down.

I have 3 transgender relatives. If "G" walked into a women's restroom, the women would lose their minds because HE is a HE! I don't know if "G" has had reassignment surgery (because it's none of my goddamn business unless he chooses to share that info with me, I've never asked.) but the only possible way anyone would determine "G"'s assigned-at-birth gender would be a very intrusive exam. These laws are perfomative bullshit that don't serve anyone.
