It is so cold here that the town asked us to leave a “pencil wide” stream of water going 24/7 because the “intake pipe” has frozen before (which results in a dug-up front yard to fix the broken pipe hours/days/weeks with no water to the house). Our water bill will “be adjusted accordingly” but a)I wonder about that; b) I feel guilty wasting water but am doing what they recommend; c) worst of all is the constant sound. I thought it would be kind of pleasant or at least tune-out-able but it’s been a week… keep the faith folks, spring has got to come sometime…
This has been a particularly long January so it's fitting that the fifth Dingus of the Week this month would be the month itself. Happy January 74th to all who celebrate!
Look what you did! I am listening to Black 47 and he is Wrecking Maria’s Wedding. Poor Maria!
My good thing is that I have started watching Rachel Maddow. I had not been a regular viewer before and I am very glad to have her with me until April.
That crash was right up the road. I drive by there almost once a week. Words fail to accurately describe the revulsion Trump’s deranged post-crash interview caused for me. I am glad that Kaitlan Collins pressed Trump about his insane allegations that DEI and Democrats caused the crash. But when he attacked her for asking the question I would like to see one goddamn moment of humanity and spontaneous rage at a billionaire bully attacking the smarter woman AGAIN. How about “your answer is rude, stupid and unpresidential. You have no idea who was in the plane, the helicopter or the tower and you already pass blame to minority and disabled hires to push your culture wars. You are a historically awful president.”
But she just smiled.
When will media understand that they are not neutral players anymore? Pick a f_cking side, because he already has.
Nedra Glover Tawwab said once that you can't out-nice a bully, and it's stuck with me ever since. I think that sums up the past eight-ish years -- trying to play by the rules and be decent. I'm not advocating that Democratic lawmakers or the media start, like, accusing the GOP of being pedophiles (though ... wait, no comment), but you're right that this obsession with "neutrality" is a problem. As a letter to the editor in the Chicago Tribune said today, when are they going to start asking about the promises to end the Ukraine war on day one? Or deal with the price of eggs?
One reporter did actually ask about the price of eggs the other day at the WH Press Conference and was told it was Biden's fault that the price of eggs has skyrocketed-SMH. Not a word on the Avian Flu outbreak and the destruction of millions of chickens as a result. NOPE, blame the Dems and Biden and Obama.
I love this story about Black 47! And writing on jeans. (I adorned everything in high school with a peace sign, a heart, a set of eighth notes, and a hammer and sickle — peace, love, music and communism.)
I had the best pair of jeans in high school that were perfectly ripped and safety pinned. An artist guy I met one summer at an enrichment program added some drawings. I wish I still had them, although they probably would not fit over my ankle..... Being a teen in the 80s, they were Guess jeans, of course, that I had to save money and buy for myself because my mom would not pay $28 for a pair of jeans.
I know! Being the youngest of 5 kids with parents who were children during the Depression, I can assure you there was no way my mom was going to pay that much for a pair of jeans in 1987.
I wanna know who paid the wrong Etsy witch for this January; I want USER NAMES. We have these socioeconomic horrors, Orange Julius thinks that DEI causes air collisions, & I had to very unexpectedly put down my 3 year old calico last Sunday. We should collectively demand a refund on these past 31 days.
That said, MAFS AU has been an excellent source of turning off my brain for a few hours (#JusticeforKatie)
Excellent! My gods, you outshine yourself every week. And sorry for laughing at your son's sobbing. Kids are so precious.
My rep sent a note that she believes in bipartisanship. She was elected due to the uni town, not the red farmland around us. So I sent her a letter. I'm sure it's the first of many. SMH.

And Groundhog Day is coming up this weekend, so here's a link for folks who want to revisit one of my favorite dinguses (https://lyz.substack.com/p/dingus-of-the-week-the-groundhog/) and also a screenshot of a tweet from the same Groundhog Day when the official groundhog of Connecticut peed on his handler and the mayor (https://i.postimg.cc/GpPRmwHf/groundhog2022.png). Hero shit. Or maybe it's hero piss?

yes, thank you!!!
I now have to Windex my monitor because of all the laugh-spitting you just made me do...
Black 47!!!!! I feel so seen. Green suede shoes forever.

$28 for a pair of jeans! That's goodwill prices today.

Try Costco. They pay living wages and are sticking with DEI.

Sorry about your cat. ❤️
Thanks ❤️🩹 She could be a jerk, but she was also beautiful, funny, sweet, & mine. Pets should not be allowed to get cancer.
I’m so, so sorry.
I appreciate it 💖 I DID NOT mean to be a downer on this thread! Everyone look back at Lyz!!
I'm so very sorry for your loss ❤️
Thank you, Lyz. Not many people could make me laugh about what has happened in January 2025. And laugh I did while reading this.

I am so proud to be from (the burbs of) Chicago! What a wonderful town! May they keep giving Homan the vapors.
Lyz, congratulations on raising such a wonderful son who sets such a good example for men of all ages.
I appreciate your take on the Democrats. I don't think they have it in them to do what needs to be done. My money is on Lily and the revolution!
My birthday is in early January and it feels like it was a year ago already.
I am so into the cottage cheese revival. I hadn’t ever thought to try it as an adult… now I’m obsessed. There’s some really good brands out there!
Not to be a current news nazi and all, but the Greyhound ICE story is from 2020. But go Quakers! Hell yeah! 🗽
Noticed that too. Hope the policy is still in place.
