McConnell versus Musk is the hardest vote yet.

They are both so awful! And almost all of the bad stuff going on right now can be traced back to them or their actions.

I wibbled about this one, but in the end, if Mitch McConnell had not been such an enormous fucking dingus we wouldn't be dealing with Elon. His complicity stacking the supreme court with this right-wing nutjobs is going to be the thing that finally damns us here. He may be the Dingus of the Century.

Close ones like this I go with the more likely to do the most damage going forward. McConnell on his way out and Musk, despite his being my #1 candidate for immediate deportation, still has his chain saw and his DOGE bros (wait, do teens even qualify as bros?).

This is the first time I have ever voted twice in the same election, contrary to what the Orange Felon would have you believe. I must say the choices are so excruciating that I may have cancelled my first time selections.

I don't know if you've noticed this, but somehow it's only black people and women who lack "decorum."

Well, the Republicans didn’t seem to be bothered when MTG and Boebert screamed at Biden’s SOTU. It really feels like a “Rules for thee, not for me” situation

"Let’s recap: Trump is stripping people of their rights; firing legions of federal workers, many of whom actually are responsible for lifesaving humanitarian assistance; starting and stopping tariffs on goods from our closest trading partners in a wild yo-yo that’s tanking the markets, stabbed longtime ally Ukraine in the back at a globally humiliating (and televised) White House meeting; and attempted to host a fire sale on federal buildings. Also, he renamed the Gulf of Mexico in some kind of weird dick-waving power play; he wants to turn Gaza into a luxury resort; he’s gutting lifesaving biomedical research; and his minions have rounded up thousands of immigrants in inhumane mass deportations. And the problem is that a member of Congress yelled at him?" Well said, Lyz! Also, I should have known my ex was going to be a problem when I told him something and his response was, "That doesn't sound very dignified." I have never had the budget for dignity, so I simply never worry about it.

Also want to chime in to mention that Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut is one of the 10 Democrats who voted to censure Rep. Al Green. His reasoning is that he voted to censure Rep. Joe Wilson for shouting at Pres. Obama back in 2009.

I admire consistency. He was right to censure Wilson. Consistency would have meant doing the right thing again by *not* voting to censure Green. This was a dingus move.

It really was a dingus move. Obama was not dismantling our democracy but apparently the difference is too subtle for Himes. Honestly, 10 Dems is painful. WTF?

Here's the official statement on his Facebook page which is all about the "disruption" and not at all about the context of either situation.

Rep. Jim Himes: "In 2009, I voted to hold Congressman Joe Wilson accountable for yelling "you lie" at President Obama during his State of the Union Address. Today, I voted to censure Congressman Al Green for a much larger disruption. Unlike my Republican colleagues and President Trump, I believe that rules, decorum, and accountability are important regardless of political party and beliefs. If we cannot stand on principle and act with the seriousness our nation deserves, our government will devolve further into the kindergarten it has already become."

IDK what principle he's trying to stand on, but it's not one I give a damn about right now.

Your dingus bracket is brilliant! My sons used to make brackets for sporting events all the time, I think my 20 yo still does. But, they also used them for other things. We, as a family, discovered The Office during Covid lockdown and my son made a bracket for favorite character. Also, this piece is hilarious in a way that is truly heartbreaking.

Dying to know who won the favorite character bracket. I just finished watching the series with my 12 y/o (a re-watch for me) and IMO if the people on that show were real the best person would be Pam. Daryl would have had a shot at my #1 spot if he hadn't dumped Val so he could be a "free agent" at Athlead.

The final 3 were Kelly, Erin and Mose. I’m sorry to say I don’t have the winner- I will have to see if any of my kids remember…

I find it especially galling to attack Green for decorum considering the offensive things Trump said about Biden, how he called Warren Pocahontas, and all the other truly embarrassing insults and attacks (in addition to the vomit stream of lies). We all know who destroyed the decorum of Washington. It wasn't Green.

Geese ARE terrifying! There's a whole gaggle of them that have moved into the grassy area in front of my work and they freak me out everyday. (To be fair I've never encountered a large group of bald eagles waddling towards me. I'm sure that's equally terrifying.)

"Men Yell at Me" is worth the price of a subscription, for sure. Even (especially?) for privileged white males.

2 cents on podcasts: please ask Substack to improve their transcription software - a requirement would be to identify different speakers. I prefer to read than to listen, but a mass of content without paragraphs or speaker identification is a chore.
